The title of this post is, "I'm a West." A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to attend a training in Boston with Oxfam America. It was an amazing week and I learned so much, but one of our sessions was on personality/leadership styles. Those of you familiar...we did the compass test. I am a West! (Shout out to my West peeps) Anyways, a few of the traits of this direction is: Indecisive, analytical, thorough, did I mention...failure to make decisions right away? Just to state a few. Why this is so important to me, besides the fact that I have excuses for my actions, lol. It helps to understand why my blog is going to be the death of me! Just kidding...but it takes me forever to decide how I want the page to look and what to put in it, etc. Perfectionist? Maybe...
So I have a plan as to what my page will have. I want to keep it simple and easy to navigate, so you don't get frustrated and stop coming through. Let me know what you think when I get it going. Really...I'll need some feedback and if you are a pro already at this, help a fellow blogger out!
How about some updates? Well, this evening the rest of my Northern crew will join me! I'm real excited to see them. Tomorrow is the first day of the Olympics and all the volunteers will be getting together for an opening ceremony par-tay! Don't know what my exact assignment is going to be over the next few weeks, but I am excited.
Beijing is beautiful in so many ways: the way of life in some areas...simple. Spending time together with people is important...take a stroll through the park. Making 17+ million people fit into a city and function...remarkable. It's great to see how excited China is to display her country to the world...they have been working hard. I don't know if any of you will understand this one, but I love the older Chinese people. I love the way they live there lives...so active. I was out one night at about 11:00pm and I came through an area where people were still out talking, laughing, having a good time. You see the older people playing games, exercising, just hanging out. It may be strange...I don't know, but I'm fascinated by it. Last but not least...the food, Oh...the food! DELICIOUS! I don't know if I will ever look at Chinese food back in the states the same. I have had some great people here take me to some "local" spots and I can't tell you in words how good it is. Some is a little different for my liking, but I still love it!
More to come...Pictures and Videos on the last weeks adventures! Forbidden City, Lama Temple, Capital Museum...etc. Take care and stay tuned...
